Hey Gill, if you are going to get a ferret there is one thing that you would like to ask your vet and the breeder about: and that is the possibility of future adrenal tumors. With the increase in the popularity of ferrets as pets there seems to have been an increase in the incidents of adrenal tumors. Prior to my current ferret, Paris I'd gotten all of my ferrets from individuals that had allowed their pets to breed, and I've had pretty good luck with health issues. Paris came from a pet store and was bred by Marshal Farms; which is not a bad operation. That said he's the first ferret that I've had that required an adrenal removal (in fact he had to have both adrenals removed). These adrenal issues are fairly expensive and there is some concern that breeders may be breeding the species to closely.

Be aware of the concern and check to see what you are getting into and what options you have for choosing your ferret. Ferrets are terrific pets. I have and have always had dogs, cats, and ferrets; and for personality and intellect it's hard to beat a ferret, but you shouldn't go into ferret ownership blind.

You should probably think about removing that .gif you have in your sig. It's highly inappropriate to have on a site such as this.

A quick note on ferrets. They are very intelligent and highly trainable, if you have the patients for it. The problem is that nothing is more important to a ferret than satisfying it's curiosity. Getting one to forego seeing what's happening outside the shirt so that you can pull the gag off is next to impossible.
